Karen began quilting in 1980 in Ames, Iowa. Inspired by family and friends, she established herself as a popular teacher in Story County, Iowa. After moving with her husband and children to North Carolina in 2003, she began teaching in Raleigh and became an active member of the Capital Quilter's Guild. Her pattern company, Quiltricks, was established in 2005 after years of developing patterns for her classes. An award-winning and published designer, Karen is also a caring instructor with a warm sense of humor. She loves to teach classes and offers trunk shows, classes and demonstrations at stores, guilds and other quilting venues.

"I met Karen for the first time at Etc. Crafts quilt store after signing up for a year long "Floral Block of the Month" class which she designed. We met the first Monday of each month learning a new quilting technique each month. It was fabulous as each block is so detailed. Karen was (and is) such a patient and encouraging instructor."
