Robin has been enjoying quilting, designing, and teaching for almost 30 years. She specializes in machine quilting, hand, and machine applique, but is comfortable with all styles. Robin loves working with students of all levels.
She finished her first quilt in 1982 while expecting her first child. After 27 years of service, Robin’s husband recently retired from the military. This career provided Robin and her family the opportunity to live in many places. She began teaching quilting at her guild in Scotland, where the local quilters were interested in American patchwork.
Robin has served on the Board for the North Carolina Quilt Symposium and was President of the NCQS board from 2006-2008. She co-chaired the NCQS symposium event in 2005. Robin lives in Elizabeth City, NC and remains active in her local guild. She has taught quilting at the local community college (College of the Albemarle) as well as many local quilt shops in the Hampton Roads region.
Robin is in the process of achieving NQA teaching certification. She loves all aspects of quilting; her passion is to help students personalize their quilt projects to make them unique.
"Robin Caruso has been our quilting instructor since 2002. Students come out of her classes with "works of art." She has a love of the history of the art of quilting and strives to learn new techniques and methods. She is active in quilting guilds here and overseas. She has been an outstanding instructor."
Glenna Pike, Assistant to the Vice President, Corporate and Continuing Education, College of the Albemarle (Elizabeth City, NC)
"Robin has been my "Google" of quilting. I have learned so much through her classes. She has taught me how to create an accurate 1/4 seam, re-elect fabrics, accurately cut fabric, piece, bind, appliquE by machine and hand, sandwich, machine quilt and finish a quilt. Anything that a quilt might require Robin has the knowledge of the "how-to’s" and the ability to share that knowledge in an encouraging way. She is a wonderful teacher!"
Pat Trimpi, Student, College of the Albemarle (Elizabeth City, NC)
"Robin Caruso is a talented and effective teacher dedicated to sharing her love of all facets of the quilt making process. Her teaching methods inspire confidence, generate results and are delivered in a professional manner. Robin offers a variety of lessons with techniques that will enhance the skills of her students and help them excel in future projects.
Because of her years of experience, her interactions with students are helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. She pays attention to detail, prepares well, and is generous with her know-how and resources. Truly committed to the success of her students, Robin is the type of teacher that will be able to offer something to every student in her classes, ranging from the beginner to the advanced student. I can highly recommend Robin. She has a great work ethic and will provide good service to any client."
