Specializes in: Machine piecing techniques, drafting, quilt design, stitch and trim piecing techniques, fabric painting, foundation free miniature quilts, and finishing techniques.


Shelly presents a variety of workshops and lectures that emphasize machine piecing skills, original designs, and creativity. She has taught at eleven Houston Quilt Festivals, the AQS show in Paducah, three NQA shows, Quilt Expo in France, and for guilds and quilt shops all over the United States. She was awarded the first Jewel Pearce Patterson scholarship sponsored by the International Quilt Association. The scholarship allowed her to study at the 1992 Quilt Expo in the Netherlands. She has judged regional quilt shows and served on the IQA Houston jury panel. Shelly is the author of two books, "Small Quilts Made Easy" and "Terrific Triangles;" she self-publishes a line of patterns. She was nominated for the 2004 Quilting Teacher of the Year Award sponsored by Professional Quilter Magazine. She was named to the Nebraska Quilters Hall of Fame in 2009. She is a founder of the Nebraska State Quilt Guild.
